From Salads to Saltines: A Saturday Full of Surprises

2025 Summer 4 – Saturday

July 12, 2025 – by Carol in 2025, Summer 4, Saturday, Weekly Meals

🍽️ The Menu

  • Main Dish
    Barbara’s Cobb-ish Salad | Stephen’s Chicken & Shrimp Salad | My Sad Sick Soup
  • Side Dish
Sprite, water with lemon, and a stack of saltines
  • Embedded
A dash of disappointment, a pinch of nausea, and one very determined salad photographer

📸 Final Plate

A large mixed salad with grilled chicken and shrimp, shredded cheese, tomatoes, and mixed greens.
Stephen’s first food photo attempt. There was salad. There was shrimp. There was mild camera shake.

🔍 About the Meal

I didn’t make it to lunch. Stephen and Barb went to Miller’s Ale House on 192 and ordered what I assume were two of the largest salads in the state of Florida. I got a picture text from Steve (after a valiant effort to focus), and honestly? Proud of him for stepping up.

Back at home, I had Campbell’s tomato soup and saltines. Gourmet? No. But sometimes comfort food wins. Especially when the rest of you is losing.

📝 Saturday Notes

  • Officially declared “Not My Day.”
  • Stephen’s salad photography career is off to a wobbly but heartfelt start.
  • No new meals were cooked today. The blog entry is being held together with love, canned soup, and a hope that Sunday will be better.

🎬 Behind the Scenes

The cats didn’t judge me for skipping lunch. The blanket was warm. The soup was nostalgic. And Barb got her greens in. All is right with the world…ish.
