What Really Happened When the Meal Plan Fell Apart (Again)

When Plans Meet Real Life (and Lose)

June 30, 2025 – by Carol in 2025, Summer 2, From Scratch(ish), Meal Plan, Weekly Wrap

💬 A Look Back at the Week

Summer Week 2 started with every intention of being a low-effort, cold-meal-friendly kind of week. The meals were all designed for quick prep, minimal stove time, and staying out of the kitchen as much as possible. But what actually happened?

A few wins, a couple of food fails, some last-minute takeout saves, and a cube steak that just couldn’t catch a break.

🗓️ What Was Planned

  • Monday: Poultry – Turkey Macaroni Salad
  • Tuesday: Pork – Ham & Couscous with Baby Peas
  • Wednesday: Meat – Sesame Lime Steak Wraps
  • Thursday: Ground Meat – Taco Pasta Salad
  • Friday: Seafood – Thai Noodle Salad
  • Saturday & Sunday: Leftovers or freezer meals as needed

✅ What Actually Happened

Monday (6/23):Turkey Macaroni Salad

Made and done, we started strong!

Tuesday (6/24):Ham & Cheese Couscous

Baby peas got skipped, but dinner happened

Wednesday (6/25):Sesame Lime Steak Wraps got kicked

We picked up Jersey Mike’s instead

Thursday (6/26): ❌ Kicked the steak again

Frozen pizza showdown: Home Run Inn vs. Palermo’s

Friday (6/27): ✅ Finally made the Sesame Lime Steak Wraps

Cube steak victory at last

Saturday (6/28):Giordano’s

Lunch and dinner for me, leftovers for Steve

Sunday (6/29):Potbelly’s

Lunch and dinner for me, leftovers for Steve

🧊 Real Life Notes

  • The cube steak saga spanned four days and ended in triumph (barely).
  • Frozen pizza night became content. And content is king, right?
  • The Thai shrimp? Untouched. It’s fine. Totally fine.
  • Weekend meals turned into restaurant nostalgia. And let’s be honest — we didn’t hate it.

🧐 Lessons Learned This Week

  • Just because a meal is “easy” doesn’t mean it’ll happen.
  • Cube steak can be stubbornly loyal.
  • Frozen pizza always comes with opinions.
  • Sandwiches solve everything.

🧡 Final Thoughts

Week 2 wasn’t what we wrote down, but it was a pretty honest look at summer dinner survival. And the fact that we still hit publish, took photos, and told the story? That’s the real win.

Summer Week 3, you’ve been warned.

What was your biggest dinner win (or fail) this week? Tell me I’m not alone.
